You will be accountable for the Diversity and Inclusion policy and promote the D&I agenda in a major UK organisation.

With operations across the breadth of the UK you will be based as the Head of Diversity and Inclusion in their London offices.


Based in London the Head of Diversity and Inclusion drives the business ambition to create an inclusive work environment that delivers a tangible difference over and above the commitments people make to perform well in their roles.

This role is accountable for the business strategy on all diversity initiatives and developing an inclusive workplace for our people throughout a complex unionised environment.

You will be required to develop and implement a diversity and inclusion strategy in collaboration with the business at all levels, facing off to multiple level stakeholders through the diversity council and our network groups.

Externally to the business, the role will benchmark and collaborate with other organisations and diversity bodies to enable us to become recognised as an employer champion in diversity and inclusion. This includes accreditations and representation at national forums.

Specific Responsibilities will include:

  • Being accountable for the diversity and inclusion policy and strategy and to create and deliver an ambitious and robust series of plans that addresses D&I issues internally and contributes to external groups and association
  • Being the business expert on all D&I matters, keeping up to date with legislative developments and current best practice and to advise the senior leaders and working groups as necessary.
  • Promoting the D&I agenda throughout the organisation through developing collaborative networks and influencing and engaging key stakeholders including the senior leadership team, line managers, Trade Unions, D&I networks and working groups/committees. This will also include working to encourage the continued development of equality networks in place and to come
  • Enable the achievement of equality accreditations other awards or initiatives as appropriate. To monitor organisational activity and progress in relation to these accreditations so as to support the continued retention of these awards.
  • Strategically partner with stakeholders to develop, implement, monitor and review policies and procedures including recruitment, reward, progression, learning and development, management information reporting to ensure that D&I issues appropriately considered, and undertake equality impact assessments where appropriate.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and review of diversity monitoring systems across the business to maximise the data available in order to identify and analyse D&I trends, patterns and areas for concern and to be able to take positive action where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Learning in both to assess skills/competencies/knowledge in relation to D&I and to develop and implement an L&D plan for D&I across the organisation, and deliver training where necessary through HRS or external supplier / digital methods.
  • Profile

    You must be based in London or within easy commute and be able to demonstrate the following:

    • A proven track record of leading and developing a first class diversity and inclusion function within a complex organisation
    • Significant experience of developing and embedding a strategic commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
    • Experience/understanding of undertaking equality impact assessments/equality analysis
    • Knowledge of the Equality Act (2010) and other relevant employment legislation
    • Degree level education with CIPD qualification or equivalent
    • Results and output focused
    • Coaching and development experience
    • Good analysis & presentation skills
