Key duties and responsibilities

  • To develop and implement an animated alumni relations strategy which will add value to the organisation's agenda, build a community of interest, enhance our profile and leverage our global connections
  • To develop innovative ideas for engagement and create a 'must have' offering, on a par with industry and professional bodies, which supports alumni through at all key life stages
  • To develop fresh approach which connect our alumni to staff, wider networks and industry contacts and provide opportunities to share and stimulate new thinking, activities and collaborations
  • To establish and cultivate long term relationships with our alumni through multiple channels ensuring that our communications and engagement activities are targeted, meaningful and beneficial
  • To develop alumni initiatives which encourage and instil 'giving back or 'paying forward' across a spectrum of opportunities including making a gift, volunteering as well as opening doors and connecting and enabling
  • To develop internal and external networks in support of our alumni engagement activities
  • To lead and performance manage a small team involved in database management, regular giving and marketing/communications helping them to achieve great things
  • To develop new initiatives to engage our student base and connect them to our alumni as well as embed alumni awareness before graduation
  • To take strategic responsibility for mass alumni data including: implementation of a lost alumni programme, on-going record cleaning, maintenance and importing and working across the campuses in order to secure data capture
  • To develop innovative financial models in support of our alumni relations activities


  • Alumni relations and/or membership management
  • Social media, website development and IT including databases
  • Managing small teams
  • Mass marketing and fundraising background eg direct mails, telethons
  • Working with Boards and/or volunteers
  • First rate communicator (written and verbal)
  • Track record of building relationships externally
  • Creative thinker - someone who has a track record in initiating and implementing new ideas
  • Strategic thinker
  • Drive for results
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse workload across varied subject areas and geographical territories
  • Budgetary management
  • Awareness of other legislation relating to marketing and communications (e.g. Data Protection, Direct Marketing initiatives etc).
  • Willingness to travel across the UK and worldwide on an infrequent basis
  • Willingness to work outside normal working hours when required
