Director of Payroll - £80k to £90k + Bonus & Bens - Berkshire

A leading Professional Services organisation seek an experienced and highly professional Director of Payroll to join their firm and take the lead on their payroll offering.

Reporting directly into a Partner you will be heading up two separate teams in the South East and take responsibility for the day to day running and delivery of the entire payroll service.

The role:

To provide leadership to the group including management of the Payroll Managers in each location

Ensure intergration across the two teams with one team approach

Continue to review and seek operating efficiencies to ensure a first class service as well as achieving profitability targets

Ensure staff retention

Be a technical expert and keep up to date with changes in legislation

Ability to cross sell wider firm services to clients

Understand client and team needs and communicate professionally

Review WIP on a weekly basis, overseeing billing arrangements for a portfolio of clients including: reviewing fee proposals and agreeing fees

Responsible for day to day staff planning

Manage and delegate to staff of a suitable level and provide technical support

Understand key issues on all cases handled by the team in order to answer any internal/external enquiries

Build strong working relationships with internal and external clients


Be aware of an comply with the firms policies at all times

Record time accurately using the Practice Managment System

Be aware of the firms risk management and practice assurance procedures and ensure compliance

Ensure continuing professional development is up to date at all times

Demonstrate technical and thought leadership

Contribute to long-term planning of the function through input to strategic and operational business plans

Manage and lead teams and/or departments

Manage a portfolio of varied and complex key clients, including new clients


The ability to engage and deliver with key stakeholders

People management skills

Strong organisational and time management skills

Proven planning and prioritising skills

Ability to meet deadlines and work comfortably under pressure
