Job Title: Learning & Development Manager

Location: Near Hammersmith, West London

Salary: Circa £60-65k per annum

This technology business with some 600 employees globally has a truly compelling story to tell and we are failing to find reasons why people would not want to work for them. They are looking to make a few key hires into HR as they seek to establish and deliver a great service to the business from this function. This is an established business but in many respects, this will not be dissimilar to setting up from scratch in a greenfield site. You will genuinely get to help influence and develop how things are done. This will not be a boring role!

We don’t want to tell you who they are just yet as that will ruin the surprise. They are a business with an incredible ethos that offers it’s employees a great deal of respect and flexibility. If you want to work in a collegiate business where you can move your start and finish time and work from home once a week, then this could be just the role for you.

It is probably also worth mentioning that you will be working for a great boss that will trust you to get on and do what you are good at.

What will be keeping you busy?

Where to start? This is an opportunity to build a professional and business focused learning & development function that services this fantastic business. You will devise and implement a best in class learning plan with clear outcomes that supports continual performance improvement and creates a learning culture across the organisation. This will include the design, development, delivery and embedding of learning and talent programmes and initiatives. First and foremost, you will get the basics in place!

The business want to get the basics right before focusing on some of the more ‘exotic’ elements of talent management. Starting from the top of the business you will design an effective management and leadership development programme that will ensure the senior members of the business are well-prepared for a period of rapid growth. You will establish effective performance review processes and you will build and deliver future talent initiatives.

You will look at the L&D pain points and gaps and come with ideas to address them. There are plenty of quick wins that will allow you to establish your credibility quickly.

Who are we looking for?

We really want someone that is passionate about what they do. This is a new role and you will be putting new processes in place and changing how things are done. Because of this we really want someone that can take colleagues at all levels with them. You will be incredibly organised and structured, engaging, credible, professional and importantly good-humoured. If you can tick most of these boxes then we would love to hear from you.

Many of your colleagues will be fairly introverted and by it’s nature, most people working in L&D are extrovert. We are looking for someone that is able to tailor their approach to different audiences.

If you have worked in larger organisations, that is fine but we would like to see people that have had experience of working in and SME. That experience will equip you for the challenges of working in an environment of fast growth where infrastructure has perhaps not kept up and there is a certain level of ambiguity.

The business is not averse to spending money on talent and development but they do want a return on their investment. You should be able to demonstrate real creativity when it comes to managing budgets so that you can get the most bang for your buck.
