Our client is a leading and rapidly expanding distributor of automotive parts to independent aftermarkets in Europe. Based in the South East, they service trade businesses and end consumers with parts and equipment through a network of national and regional logistics platforms and through their subsidiaries and independent affiliates.
The Head of Human Resources (Europe) is a newly created post and the HR function there has yet to be properly established. So, this is a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to make their mark, in a developing organisation.
Key responsibilities are to manage the UK HR team and to oversee European HR activity, with the HR leaders in France and Germany reporting to you. This means that there will be dual reporting lines to the country Managing Directors and to the Group CEO.
The European HR team currently comprises c.30 people, split about equally across 3 countries. They support 7,000 employees in Europe, with 3,500 in France, 3,000 in the UK and 500 in Germany. In due course, my client will also employ a UK HR Manager, although expects that the successful applicant will take direct responsibility for the UK in the short term.
Currently, the HR teams have responsibility for: HR/ER, recruitment, payroll and administration and will also be responsible for the management and delivery of these functions across the whole business. In addition, you will support the development of strategic initiatives such as: training and retention, succession planning and the policies that support this. As you would expect, the role will have responsibility for compliance.
Candidates should be aware this is a tough and fast-moving trading environment and the post holder is likely to face competing demands from international stakeholders, so this is not a role for the faint hearted. For the right candidate, a package of £100k-£120k pa, plus 25 days holiday, pension and a company car is available.
