Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases.  Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics. Improving support and development of LSTM’s UK and overseas based staff to achieve these aims is a major part of our strategic plan. 

The appointment of a new Global Director of Human Resources will have responsibility for developing and implementing HR strategies to deliver LSTM’s global Strategic and Business Plan. The post will form part of LSTM’s Senior Management Group and assume full responsibility for the systems and functions in LSTM that ensure optimal career, skills, cultural, engagement and succession planning for all staff. One of the considerable challenges for the incumbent will be to galvanise the combined resources of the HR department, positioning them firmly at the disposal of the entire organisation, delivering proactive and bespoke support services to academics and research teams.

Commercially astute and FCIPD qualified, candidates must have a demonstrable track record of achievement of delivering substantial business and cultural change in organisations where revenues exceed £100m. Managerial experience and oversight of HR functions in overseas countries is vital, as is the ability not only to quickly grasp the complexity of LSTM’s group of companies but add significant value to them. Proven experience of developing successful strategic business plans, coupled with a strong client/customer-focussed approach is crucial, as is the ability to demonstrate gravitas and sagacity at Board level.
