Is this the most interesting HR Business Partner Job in London?

Job Title: Group HR Business Partner

Location: Central London, (near Regents Park)

Salary: Circa £60-65k per annum

Contract type: Permanent, Full-time

What can we tell you about this fascinating business?

Our client is a global communications business that specialises in helping their clients to make brands culturally relevant. They work with a number of the best known brands in the world that many of their competitors would cut their right arm off to have.

They have a number of different businesses working within the group, each with their own approach, identity and culture. This role sits across all of those businesses and this is what makes this role so incredibly interesting. Couple this with the fact that you will be working with some of the nicest colleagues going that are truly passionate about what they do, and you have got a winning combo.

What will be keeping you busy?

This is a newly created role. You are going to be shaping and implementing best in class HR practices across the group.

There is an enormous appetite for what great HR can do for this business. You will be given a blank slate to put pragmatic initiatives in place that help drive the business forward and make it an even greater place to work. You will be pushing at an open door as the leadership are all bought into what you might be able to help with.

There are very small amounts of ER case work here and the transactional HR work such as raising contracts and payroll admin are handled by a team that looks after all this. This role requires someone to set and drive the HR strategy. This might involve looking at L&D, Talent Management, HR Data and HRIS, Compensation & Benefits and Succession Plan. There is a lot to keep you busy and we can give you more detail on the specifics when you apply.

This might suit someone that has already worked as a HRBP but is looking to step up and is looking for the opportunity to set the HR agenda across a whole company. This is a fantastic stepping stone for someone with ambitions of becoming an HR Leader.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with a strategic mind-set, with demonstrable commercial awareness whereby you are able to fully engage with leaders and provide expert, pragmatic solutions.

If you have worked in a creative media, PR or marketing environment then that might help you to understand this type of business. It would be good to see people that have worked for some large well-known brands either in retail or FMCG as this might have given you a clear understanding of what good looks like. It will also help you to understand the challenges faced by some of the business’ own clients.

The group of businesses here are quite edgy and cool and they constantly seek innovative ways of doing things. The same will apply to HR so we would like to see people that are perhaps ahead of the curve when it comes to putting fresh and modern HR practices in place. Ultimately, the focus of this role will be on putting stuff in place that is fit for purpose and not over-engineered. You will be someone that can work with the leadership to design a HR roadmap that will fix what the business needs rather than perhaps what they think they need. We are not looking for someone to just roll out ideas from a HR textbook here.

If all of the employees in this organisation were sat in one business unit then this role would probably be very straightforward and less of an interesting challenge. You have 6 different businesses here, each with their own culture and needs. This will add a level of complexity that you will need to be comfortable navigating as there will not always be a one size fits all solution for all of these businesses.

If you have a strong track record as a HR Business Partner and you are both visionary and creative in your approach, then this could be just the role for you.
