Responsible for: 2 x HR Business Partners and HR Apprentice

Background

This Multi-Academy Trust includes eleven Academies delivering high quality Alternative and SEMH Provision across four London Boroughs, Cambridgeshire, Essex and the North-West of England. Additionally, we have a Teaching School Alliance that offers extensive CPD and research programmes at all levels. In September 2016, we opened an innovative new 16-19 Academic AP Free school, which provides an academic curriculum to enable learners to gain access to Higher Education. Key Purpose:

This role will take both an operational and strategic oversight of all our schools and is directly related to statutory responsibilities as an employer.

This requires quite a high level of day to day operational HR support. The post holder will have their own caseload of more complex operational issues and be able to give advice and oversee the management and development of the HR team who will also handle their own caseload. The role is responsible for championing, embedding and driving the HR agenda in the Trust and ensure its integration in the business planning process.

Accountabilities:

  • Delivery of a full HR service to all managers and staff in Academies and offices to include:
  • Supporting the Heads of Schools in the Academies with day to day HR issues and queries
  • Overseeing HR policies - creating, implementing and monitoring/reviewing and updating to ensure reflect current legislation etc.
  • Setting up and maintaining audit frameworks to enable analysis of individual Academies in order to identify HR best practice, and identify risks
  • Oversee the recruitment procedure in conjunction with Heads of Schools and the Human Resources Business Partner organising and assisting in the running of the recruitment campaign if required
  • Ensure all schools carry out all pre-employment checks to comply with safer recruitment practices and statutory requirements.
  • Using HR analytics to drive service improvement and KPIs, providing Committee and Board reports regularly for governance
  • Ensuring best and consistent HR practice is implemented across the Trust
  • Keep abreast of changes in both employment law, national policies in teaching and changes to nationally negotiated terms and conditions of employment and advise all schools accordingly
  • Develop innovative and consistent approaches to the school employment relationship, identifying opportunities and mechanisms for reward and recognition to enhance the Trust brand and School performance.
  • Provide expert advice on all employee relations issues
  • Provide Payroll and Pension services to the Trust
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with all recognised Trade Unions
  • Monitor supplier performance and ensure value for money procurement contracts are in place
  • Manage the HR budget ensuring that the Trust's financial procedures and processes are adhered to
  • Manage and implement all employee engagement projects and initiatives

Person Specification

Must be eligible to work in the UK

Must be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check

Qualifications

Essential

  • Graduate or equivalent
  • MCIPD (minimum requirement)

Skills

  • Ability to prioritise and manage work to deadlines.
  • Can work independently and use own initiative.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Solution driven and customer focussed

Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of current UK employment law.
  • Experience of TUPE

Desirable

  • Broad knowledge of the UK (English) State Education Sector including Academies/Free Schools.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant generalist HR experience, some of which should have been gained in the public, education or not for profit sectors.
  • Management and development of staff
  • Worked as part of a team within a multi-disciplinary department consisting of staff other than purely HR
  • Experience of facilitating change.
  • Working in a unionised environment.
