Job Title - Finance assistant
Salary - up to £22,500
Location - Worcester

This is an opportunity to work on a fixed term contract lasting until December 2019 in a public sector organisation who are currently forming an alliance with another organisation to form one of the biggest of its kind in the UK.
The purpose of the role will be all about budget control, with the aim being to reduce the budgets across the whole organisation.
What's you will be doing..
·Assist with the setting of annual non pay budgets for each force in the context of an alliance arrangement
·Monitor non pay budgets, ensuring that all items of income and expenditure are correctly accounted for
·To ensure accounting procedures are followed at period end and year end to facilitate timely and accurate management and statutory reporting. This will involve posting journals in accordance with financial rules and polices
·To promote compliance with financial regulations, accounting instructions and other statutory instruments
·Work closely with Business Support and Contracts and Procurement staff to ensure that expenditure is coded to the correct budget headings, reviewing processes to ensure that miscoding does not occur
·To support with the completion of grant claims
·Provide support and advice to Business Support Staff in relation to locally delivered finance tasks such as petty cash, ordering goods and supporting officers and staff with finance related queries
·To interrogate the finance system and analyse spend data to respond to queries and ad hoc work requests
·To ensure that all income is correctly accounted for and assist with the timely production of sales invoices
·To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required
What you will have..
·5 Grade A-C GCSEs (including English & Maths)
·Demonstrable understanding of how budgets are constructed and monitored
·Awareness of the national and local financial and legal framework within which Police and Crime Commissioners and Chief Constable Operate
·Demonstrable understanding of how Pay budgets are constructed and monitored within in a Police Environment
·Experience of budgetary control (including forecasting) in a professional Accounting environment within the Public Sector
·Experience of working with large volumes of data and the ability to analyse and model data in a spreadsheet
·Working in a finance office providing customer focused service
·Operating a contemporary finance system
·Working to a high degree of accuracy and pays attention to detail
·Able to extract and model data from finance systems
·Effective team player with the ability to be flexible and work to tight deadlines
·Competent in the use IT including Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
