A VP Learning and Talent Development Manager - Banking - Standalone:

  • To develop, lead and deliver the Bank's Learning and Talent Development agenda to enable the business to achieve its strategic objectives.
  • With full 360 degree ownership of Learning & Development / Talent Initiatives - must be able to demonstrate recent cradle to grave exposure for a dedicated client group over a period of time

Learning and Development

  • Develop and lead the L&D strategy and framework
  • Devise strategic learning programmes including line management capability, leadership and team development delivered via internal and external resources
  • Work closely with the HR and Learning Services team to deliver learning programmes
  • Drive the development of learning advisory and consulting capability in the wider HR team
  • Lead the Bank's Apprenticeship Levy strategy and support the wider HR team in the delivery of Levy funded programmes
  • Manage effective communication and engagement of all L&D initiatives, including senior management committees
  • Work with HR and Learning Services to establish and manage feedback reports on all training and use these to ensure continuous improvement in the learning curriculum
  • Work with the Head of HR MI to provide meaningful data on learning programmes, and feed back to relevant stakeholders
  • Provide specialist L&D input into the annual 360 process
  • Conduct annual learning needs analysis
  • Manage the L&D budget including the annual review process and work with HR and Learning Services in the rectification of invoices
  • Manage the Bank's approach to Executive Coaching, including supplier reviews
  • Drive a culture of informal and "on the job" development within the Bank
  • Design and deliver development interventions on an ad-hoc basis
  • Ensure all training complies with relevant organisational policies, health and safety regulations, employment legislation and regulatory requirements where applicable
  • Work closely with relevant colleagues on the implementation and embedding of the Senior Managers Regime
  • Document and embed the Bank's Training Operating Model

Talent Management

  • Design, deliver and maintain a best practice talent management and succession framework
  • Work in close collaboration with key stakeholders to engage leaders in the talent agenda
  • Work with HRBPs to implement and deliver an annual talent and succession planning process
  • Ensure the talent framework is aligned to the promotion framework
  • Be the custodian of the competency framework and work with HRBPs to ensure it is refreshed where appropriate and is reflected in core HR processes
  • Design, deliver and maintain a Mentoring framework

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (E,D&I)

  • Work with key stakeholders as required to support the development and implementation of a vision and framework for the Bank
  • Identify and execute specific programmes, policies, frameworks and tools to deliver the strategy
  • Work closely with the Head of HR MI to generate and analyse data, KPIs and metrics
  • Utilise external networks to maximise our access to best-practice approaches
  • Develop HR and business capability

Vendor Selection and Management

  • Participate in the selection of approved vendors including working with internal stakeholders to evaluate the provider's delivery, cost management and adherence to quality
  • Be the custodian of all learning and talent development supplier relationships


  • Support the Head of HR and HRBPs on ad-hoc projects including Integration initiatives and embedding the Culture framework


A VP Learning and Talent Development - Banking - Standalone with:

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

  • Business degree or equivalent
  • Experience in Financial Services
  • CIPD qualification
  • Experience with psychometric assessment tools would be an advantage
  • Experience of designing training programmes and subject matter expert in skills development
  • Good knowledge and understanding of organisational development principles, diagnostic tools and best practices in the L&D field
  • Experience of working with learning technologies and platforms
  • Change management
  • Demonstrated skill at converting organisational knowledge and business insight into executable L&D plans
  • Strong project planning skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Significant experience in managing and optimising resources within a matrix management structure
  • Experience of budget management

Personal Competencies

  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Ability to explain complex learning terminology in simple language
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop constructive and co-operative working relationships
  • Ability to analyse and interpret MI
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
