A senior advisor position to support the wider HR function within the organisation.

Client Details

The client is a Glasgow based public sector body going through a lot of change. They need a true generalist to support the head of HR with achieving strategic goals.

Description

  • Provide professional advice, expertise, guidance and support to Management Team, Unit Managers and other senior managers on all aspects of HR, ensuring that they are aware of current legislation, best practice, and college policy and procedures
  • Provide advice to individual members of staff on any matters relating to their terms and conditions of employment
  • Act as main point of contact for managers on employee relations issues and to provide support and advice on individual employee casework (recruitment, grievance, performance and absence management, conduct, redundancy, voluntary severance, redeployment, equality & diversity etc.). To ensure cases are dealt with in a timely fashion and in accordance with current legislation and best practice and that good employee and/or Trade Union relations are maintained
  • Develop relationships with managers of specific faculties and business units within the College in order to gain greater all round understanding of their business requirements and support them in delivering key business objectives
  • Provide coaching and support to managers involved in grievance and discipline processes
  • To lead on the management of casework, relating to sickness absence. This includes making recommendations, giving advice and support to managers, liaising with Occupational Health, case review meetings
  • To prepare regular and ad hoc management information reports, as agreed with service areas, to support continuous improvement in the management and monitoring of sickness absence and performance management. Use these reports in conjunction with the HR reports to target resource and action where most appropriate
  • Facilitate formal communication and consultation processes with staff and trade union representatives, ensuring appropriate involvement of all managers and staff
  • Initiate, participate in and where appropriate manage projects in the areas of organisational structure and design, review of working patterns and staffing requirements in order to help managers achieve their business objectives
  • Develop and deliver staff and management development activities in consultation with managers and the Head of Human Resources
  • Support the Head of Human Resources in meeting goals in the annual Development Plan; reporting, monitoring, and analysing business information, identifying actions required to meet the goals in the annual plan. Making recommendations and participating in their implementation
  • Provide guidance and mentoring support to the HR Administrators on all aspects of HR activity
  • Share best practice and keep up to date with professional developments, including changes in best practice, new legislation and case law

Profile

The successful candidate;

- MUST be available within a few weeks to start

- Will be able to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in straight away

- Is not afraid of a challenge

- Works independently

- Is able to travel across sites (own car is not an essential)

- Will be able to commit to the contract for 4 months
