Main Duties and Responsibilities:

We are looking for an experienced, committed and proactive CIPD-qualified candidate to join our team of excellent HR Business Partners who contribute to and influence the University’s People Strategy. The Business Partners are responsible for day to day operational support for the Strategic Business Units with a full generalist remit which will include assisting managers at an early stage in identifying the HR implications of change management strategies. The successful candidate will coach and influence managers in order to develop their people management/leadership skills and constructively challenge inappropriate behaviours/actions.

Skills & Experience:

You will have good communication and presentation skills as well as an assertive and influencing manner, whilst being able to successfully build and develop excellent working relationships with senior managers and be a team player. This is an important role within the department and the team, requiring the ability to work largely independently, on own initiative, juggling multiple tasks and working to tight time pressures. You will always be expected to represent both the department and the University in a highly professional manner and be values-oriented with an understanding of how to embody the University’s FACES values.

You will have had significant HR case work experience, including disciplinary processes, grievance, absence management and claims of harassment and bullying. You will also have had experience of working with trade unions, and ideally experience in the public sector environment. Experience of developing and executing workshops for staff would be advantageous.

Qualifications:

Educated with a degree or equivalent, or substantial proven work experience, you must also hold a professional HR qualification.

The University offers a range of benefits including a pension scheme, professional development, family friendly policies, a fee waiver of 50% for all children of staff under the age of 21 at the start of the course, discounted memberships at the Hertfordshire Sports Village and generous annual leave.

Informal enquiries should be made to Mrs Chizoma Okaro, Assistant Director of HR (Business Partnering, Policy & Employee Support), c.okaro@herts.ac.uk or 01707 285240.
