Interim ER Advisor (absence management project) – contract until the end of 2019

Birmingham

Competitive day rate via either an umbrella or limited company 

Are you available at very short notice to undertake your next HR contract? Do you have a strong background in resolving employee relations issues in unionised environments? And do you, in particular, have prior experience of managing absence management cases, with demonstrable experience of reducing staff sickness rates? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you….

JOB PURPOSE

Undertaking a contract for c. 7 months (i.e. until the end of the year), the post-holder will be given an ambitious agenda to drive down absence levels within a highly unionised environment (due to this, prior TU experience is essential & public sector experience is highly desirable)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Ensure that formal absence meetings and revised plans / processes are put in place, after identifying the right trigger points 
* Coach and support Managers in line with a revised Absence Management policy and relevant procedures, to ensure this is implemented successfully 
* Work pro-actively with Managers, in liaison with Occupational Health providers, to support staff who are returning to work after long term absence 
* Produce and distribute monthly absence reports to the Senior Leadership Team and Managers, highlighting staff absence levels and costs 
* Also produce high level monthly absence reports to track progress against absence reduction targets 
* Analyse absence data to identify patterns and areas to target activity 
* Deliver Absence Management training across the business to ensure all managers understand their role and accountabilities in reducing absence
* Attend monthly operational Sickness Absence Management meetings (SAMs) to monitor managers progress and offer advice on more complex absence issues
* Review current Occupational Health arrangements with a view to moving to a single provider across the business

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

* Ability to monitor & translate HR data, with strong reporting skills 
* Prior knowledge of having robust conversations with managers and managing tricky stakeholder relationships in line with ER issues
* Excellent ER background, in either a HR Advisor or junior HRBP capacity 
* Public sector experience is highly desirable 
* Extensive Trade Union exposure is ESSENTIAL
* Demonstrable experience of tackling a similar project recently i.e. reducing absence levels
