Job Description

Position: Senior HR Adviser

Salary: £33,199 - £37,345 per annum 

Hours: Full Time

Contract: Temporary – Maternity Cover

To provide support on a range of employee relations issues such as discipline, grievance and absence management and lead on a range of HR projects. To provide support and guidance to the HR Advisers and ensure that the team provide an effective HR service. To act as a deputy to the Head of Human Resources.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To deputise for the Head of Human Resources in their absence.
  • To provide policy and employee relations advice to managers and staff.
  • To provide support and guidance to the HR Advisers.
  • To manage a case load of employee relation issues including; absence management, discipline, capability and grievance.  To provide procedural support at hearings.
  • To undertake staff disciplinary investigations, compiling investigation reports and presenting these to disciplinary panels. To undertake student disciplinary investigations in some cases, compiling investigation reports and presenting these to disciplinary panels.
  • To participate within the recruitment process as a panel member, and supporting the work of the HR Adviser – Recruitment.
  • To lead on a range of HR projects including the development of new initiatives.
  • To support staff on maternity leave, including the undertaking of maternity risk assessments. Liaising with the Risk and Safety team as required. 
  • To work with the Head of HR in reviewing and maintaining the University’s employment policies, procedures and template letters ensuring that they remain compliant with legislation and support the culture and ethos of the University.
  • To work with the HR Adviser (Management Information) in the day-to-day maintenance and enhancement of the HR System.
  • To undertake staff inductions and provide training to managers on a range of HR procedures as required.
  • To prepare a range of reports as directed by the Head of Human Resources.
  • To support in the administration of other areas of HR activity such as Payroll and Staff Development as required by the Head of Human Resources.
  • To undertake Job Evaluation of new roles and re-evaluation of current roles as and when required throughout the year.
  • To attend external meetings representing HR and the University if required.
  • To maintain and update information held on the HR PORTAL and wider University website.
  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current employment law issues and understand how these may affect the University. 
  • To maintain an awareness of sector developments which may have an impact on HR and the University.
  • To maintain strict confidentiality at all times and ensure that all procedures relating to data protection and retention are followed.
  • To ensure compliance with financial regulations at all times, for instance when placing adverts, or engaging external partners such as Occupational Health to undertake work on behalf of the University.
