Based in Maidenhead, as the HR Manager APAC & Africa, you will partner with the Area Director APAC & Africa and the Central HR team to deliver the HR agenda within the APAC & Africa region. You will manage a small HR team and focus on delivering a Generalist remit. There will be some international travel. You will need to have strong knowledge of Employment Law in UK and India, as well as some exposure to Africa or Asia.

Description

As the HR Manager APAC & Africa, you will partner with the Area Director APAC & Africa on HR matters and be part of the Area's management team; advise on all HR best practice and ensure cohesion with Corporate HR strategy policies and procedures, along with local HR and legislative requirements.

Key Duties

  • Formulate and advise the Area Director on the full Area HR strategy in support of 1 and 5 year Area Business Plans.
  • Advise Area Director on all key/complex strategic HR issues and likely solutions to mitigate.
  • Effectively lead the Area HR function and its team members, in order to deliver a comprehensive service to the business unit.
  • Develop, execute and manage the full Area employment budget. Monitor monthly employment budget variances and authorise (within agreed delegated budget and financial authority) changes to employee pay/conditions.
  • Policy & procedures - Ensure all Area/country policies and procedures are up to date and in line with current employment legislation and practice.
  • Employee Relations - make key recommendations to Area Director and management team on challenging casework including absence, disciplinary, grievances, sickness etc. Assess individual or corporate risk associated with casework or people management issues and escalate/report risks to Area Director as appropriate.
  • Performance Management - plan coaching on performance management & other people issues/processes.
  • Ensure performance management process is completed for all staff.
  • Learning & Development - provide guidance on development for managers and their teams.
  • Lead on preparation and regular updating of training plans, implementing and monitoring /reporting on progress.
  • Recruitment & Retention - advise on, formulate and deliver manpower strategy with Area
    Director and Management Team. Coordinate talent and succession planning; overall responsibility for recruitment activity and campaigns.
  • Reward - review pay and benefit packages and ensure local benchmarking is applied for the 16 countries in which staff are directly employed. Where appropriate provide advice about local negotiations.
  • Manage and prioritise a full casework and project portfolio, based on both Area and Corporate requirements. Craft business and people solutions.

Profile

To apply for this role of HR Manager APAC & Africa, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience, knowledge and education/qualifications:

  • Good understanding and knowledge of Employment Law in the UK - essential.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and understanding of Employment Law in India - very important.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of Employment Law in some African and Asian countries - very important.
  • Sound HR experience in a variety of different countries, cultures and jurisdictions.
  • HR post graduate qualification or relevant experience.
  • Excellent Generalist HR Manager experience including people management, Employee Relations, L&D, Reward, Performance Management, HR policies and processes, job grading and evaluations, reviewing Pay and Benefits, and HR Projects.
  • Working with both office based and manual employees, often based in a variety of different locations and cultures.
  • Influencing and negotiating with suppliers and senior managers.
  • Application of Specialist Expertise - Demonstrable experience in a range of HR projects.
  • Resource Management - experience of managing budgets - essential.
  • Experience of dealing with senior and sometimes challenging individuals. Ability to build rapport quickly with key members of the senior team.
  • Highly proactive and able to work on own initiative; ability to formulate HR strategy for and with Area Director is essential.
  • Communication - excellent communication skills honed in business partnering/advisory roles.
  • Ability to articulate complex HR issues effectively and confidently.
  • High degree of confidentiality.

This role will involved some international travel - on average one month per year.

Job Offer

This role offers:

  • 37 hour working week.
  • Starting at 25 days holiday plus 8 Bank Holidays. In addition, the organisation closes at Christmas (you don't have to use holiday).
  • Excellent pension scheme, whereby the organisation contributes a maximum of 13%.
