We have an opportunity for an HR Advisor / HR Officer to join a busy team providing HR& ER services.


As an HR Officer (HR Advisor) you will be working as part of a proactive HR team providing a comprehensive HR & ER service to Schools and Children's Services. You will be handling a variety of employer relations case work including, absence management, sickness, grievances, performance, capability, disciplinary.
Key tasks include

  • To undertake employee relations casework, including attendance at formal meetings, investigations, drafting correspondence, meeting employees at home or at work, and liaising with trade union representatives, as necessary.
  • To process paperwork associated with employee relations cases accurately and to meet required deadlines.
  • To provide advice and guidance to managers on pay and conditions of service for employees
  • To liaise effectively with colleagues within the team on individual cases and on policy development
  • To contribute to coaching and training on Human Resources issues, for directorate managers
  • To contribute to the implementation and development of HR policies and procedures, through participation in divisional working groups or through research

Candidates
  • Have experience in operational employee relations in a complex unionised environment.
  • Be capable of analysing and interpreting employee relations issues, using experience and knowledge to provide sound, accurate and relevant advice, and to identify appropriate options for management action.
  • Have in depth knowledge of relevant employment law, and good understanding (or be able to acquire it) of conditions of service for the employee groups within the council
  • Be able to advise on and prepare reports or draft correspondence in respect of employee relations casework, organisational change, conditions of service, early retirement and severance.
  • Have demonstrable sound interpersonal skills and proven experience of developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Comfortable working independently meeting with Heads of service

CIPD Qualified or working towards


This role is initially a fixed term contract until end of March 2020 however there is a good potential for permanent contract in future.

Full time - 37 hours - flexi time (preference)
However for the right individual could offer
- 4 days per week and possibly term time only contract
