Director of HR
My client is one of the UK's biggest Trade Unions with over 1 million members across the UK. Working with private and public services they represent their members by assuring equality across the sectors. They are looking to appoint a Director of Human Resources to led and develop the HR team.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer the Director of Human Resources has 2 direct reports within a HR team of 15 and will be responsible for all Human Resource matters and Staff Development across the organisation. You will have ownership of the organisations people strategy including - well-being, engagement, policy and process development, HR operations, industrial relations management, diversity and inclusion and staff training and development.
This role will allow you the opportunity to devise, develop and implement the people strategy for HR and the learning and development team. This will include creating an employee relations framework, HR succession planning and large scale project management to enhance employee engagement and productivity. The role requires highly developed leadership, negotiation and advocacy skills to support the team and wider organisation, you will be the critical friend to the COO. Within this role you will be the first point of call for all key HR matters including gender pay gap, GDPR and also having the lead reasonability for overall decision making. With a partnering approach you will work with high profile internal and external committees. You must be able to evidence your experience working with a diverse range of external stakeholders!
Within this role you will oversee the development of a staffing strategy in relation to regional and London based staff and how best to support the organisations core objectives of recruitment and organising. You will be providing leadership advice and guidance to the Senior leadership team across the organisation including your HR and Staff Development team. This role will have responsibility of an operational budget of over £1 million and you will be responsible for producing the annual report in line with the strategic framework for HR.
To be successful in this role you will have a MCIPD status and be a proven senior HR professional working at Director level across a multiple site organisation. You will have built and delivered a people strategy for a similar sized organisation of around 1200 staff and with a team of 10 plus in HR. You will have a strong generalist background with an established network and will have had ownership of the HR budget. You will have expert knowledge of UK employment law and experience of working with Unions or in a unionized environment. You will also have high level experience of operating and influencing effectively in a political environment and in-depth understanding of the role of trade union and the national and local social and political environment in which the union operates. It is key that the post holder can demonstrate their inter-personal and communication skills as you will be working across multiple client groups. Lastly you will be able to align yourself with the key values and ethos behind working within a Union and a long-standing commitment to working In partnership with them.
