Are you attracted by a once in a lifetime opportunity? If so and you live within commuting distance of Wrexham, you'll have never dreamed a role like this might exist on your doorstep!

We were bowled over when we met the founders of this entrepreneurial fintech business, which since launching just 3 years ago has secured £150mn in funding, was the only retail bank to gain a banking licence in the whole of 2018 and has a leadership team and board at the top of their game.

Based in Wrexham, our client is a digitally enabled non-hierarchical financial services business which is challenging the status quo in every way imaginable. From a standing start in 2016, it has developed cutting edge cloud-based technology and implemented a flexible infrastructure enabling it to make nearly a million loan decisions per month! It now has achieved the regulatory approval from the PRA to accept savings and expanding its offering into the mortgage and credit card markets is next on the agenda.

Its founding directors and leadership team had all enjoyed impressive careers in a variety of financial and technology environments before creating this business and saw a huge gap in the market. They weren't motivated by simply bringing technology to the typical customer offering within the existing banking landscape. They wanted modern technology to be at the heart of their business model and by using it to best effect, ultimately make all their customers better off. This is their vision.

They have grown quickly in the past 3.5 years and it's now time for a new People Director to join the business, help consolidate that growth and ensure it is well positioned for the next stage of its development. They're a fast-moving, people centric organisation employing some of the brightest and best and are the talk of the town (literally!).

However, it's important to stress we're not talking about expansion in numbers for numbers sake. The leading-edge technology created means the business can expand its customer base significantly without a massive increase in headcount, albeit some growth is needed to achieve its ambitious goals. Maybe to 100 or so people, tops, in the next 2-3 years.

As you'd expect from a technology enabled organisation, most of its employees are in their twenties and thirties and the positive culture that's being developed recognises their millennial desires and motivations!

Reporting to the CEO, key areas of focus will include partnering with the board to drive strategy, implementing a scalable, agile organisational structure plus developing a first-class approach to attraction, recruitment, talent development, engagement and reward that acutely reflects the dynamics of this competitive market.

Why are we so excited about helping them recruit their first People Director? What's so different about this business and this role?

The leaders of this business are driven, dedicated and highly commercial. By bringing greater agility and responsiveness, their goal is to clearly disrupt a traditional market, "do the right thing" and make customers' lives better.

Who will this role suit? Whatever your background, we're looking for a commercially focused and technically strong HR professional, someone with the experience, intellect and entrepreneurial flair to drive the business forward.

To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate you can adapt to a relatively small and entrepreneurial business, at pace and "roll up your sleeves". Be prepared to be very operational as required. Financial Services/Digital/Regulatory experience is ideal although not vital.

What will the business offer you in return? Quite simply, the opportunity to be the People Director and key leadership team member of an up and coming sector changer. The opportunity to be part of an amazing business which will have a genuine and positive impact on the lives of millions.
