Do you have experience of designing, implementing and evaluating organisation-wide volunteer initiatives and good practice? Then join Shelter as a Volunteering Engagement Manager and you could soon be instrumental in driving forward our strategic volunteering initiatives.

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change — with individuals, in communities, across society – and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

About the role

The People Directorate provides the strategic lead on people management and organisational development at Shelter.  Our aim is to enable the organisation to have the right culture, capacity and capability to achieve its purpose. This particular role sits within our Learning and Organisational Development team and involves developing and supporting all aspects of a successful volunteer strategy and line managing a Senior Volunteering Advisor and Volunteering and L&OD Assistant. It will also see you work closely with volunteering in Shelter Scotland and an Involvement team in services for involved service users, as well as Retail, Community Fundraising and Corporate volunteering. Taking the lead role in maintaining our Volunteer Database will be important too, as will working with key teams across Shelter to give strategic direction and guidance for volunteer initiatives.

About you

To succeed, you’ll need experience of volunteering in a Manager/Business Partner/Consultant capacity and knowledge of legal issues relating to volunteering. Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and Volunteer Databases is important too, as are excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels. Above all, you’re keen to help Shelter deliver its volunteering offer to ensure we can involve more people in helping us achieve our organisational strategic objectives.

Benefits

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
