Diversity & Inclusion Manager (Headquarters, Chelmsford)

Full Time, Perm

£45,801 - £48,828 per annum

Essex is a big county with a diverse population focused on helping people, keeping people safe and catching criminals and we have clear ambitions to ensure our force reflects the communities we serve.

We are determined to continue to strengthen our approach to diversity and inclusion. This senior leadership role will help us to ensure that the principles we stand for are at the heart of everything we do.

As someone with expertise in the field and substantial senior leadership ability, you will relish in taking a key strategic role for diversity and inclusion across the whole of Essex Police. This is certainly a role for a specialist leader - it will combine balancing leadership, creativity and innovation in this area with the need to deliver inspiring solutions and initiatives which continue to enhance our approach to diversity and inclusion. We need you to bring a sense of challenge, analysis and strategic insight to support the force in continuing to enhance the great work already underway in this area.

We will look to you to continue the leadership and implementation of our innovative, best-practice diversity and inclusion strategy, which is aligned with our culture and service delivery expectations. You will oversee key diversity and inclusion work streams, design and promote initiatives that improve current practice, and represent the force internally and externally on a range of diversity-related events and meetings. This is an organisation-impacting role which will provide you with the opportunity to influence the widest strategic diversity and inclusion agenda.

CIPD-qualified or with equivalent experience, you will be able to draw on your senior leadership ability to lead the diversity and inclusion function, whilst effectively advising at board level. You should be more than capable of delivering high-level and long-term strategic programmes, be passionate, creative and innovative about this area and have a good knowledge of the challenges facing the police service.

You will also be positive and pragmatic, and capable of working with minimal direct supervision. Proven experience of developing and implementing business cases for change, developing strategies and exceptional written communication skills are critical. In addition, you will demonstrate the ability to identify and build relationships with key internal / external stakeholders to continue to enhance the entire diversity and inclusion agenda. The Diversity and Inclusion team is a small team and relies heavily on engaging the wider organisation to focus on key priorities, therefore the ability to develop long-term strategic relationships is critical for this role. You will also have proven previous experience of operating at a very senior level in a similar sized organisation.

Essex Police welcomes applications regardless of age, disability, marital status (including civil partnerships), pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, transgender, sex (or gender) or employment status. If you have a disability or health condition that requires adjustments during any element of the selection process please provide us with details of the adjustment you would require at the earliest opportunity. Where appropriate we will make adjustments to the selection process, working arrangements and/or the working environment provided it is reasonable in all the circumstances to do so.
