Description

St Helena Government offers an extraordinary opportunity for a Deputy Chief Auditor to join the Audit office for St Helena and support the Chief Auditor in delivering the statutory external audit function. This demanding but rewarding role will allow you to apply your professional expertise in external audit and make a major contribution to public accountability at a key time in the economic development of the Island.

Reporting to the Chief Auditor, the Deputy Chief Auditor will manage the operations of the Audit office for St Helena with prime responsibility for:

  • Leading the planning and delivery of financial and performance audits in accordance with international standards across a diverse portfolio of public sector bodies.
  • Lead the management of audit methodologies, systems and quality control.
  • Manage resources to deliver audit engagements to time and quality standards.
  • Engage with clients to maintain effective communication and provide technical leadership.

Profile

The Deputy Chief Auditor will be required to relocate to Saint Helena. Saint Helena is a sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500. St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. With the opening of an international airport in 2017 there is now a weekly scheduled flight from Johannesburg with onward international connections.

As a qualified accountant you will have:

  • Proven experience in managing ISA compliant external audits ideally in a public sector environment.
  • Strong practice management skills you will be confident in managing resources to deliver audit engagements to time and quality standards.
  • Know how to engage with clients to maintain effective communication
  • Provide technical leadership adding value to the statutory audit process
