My client a leading manufacturing business in Derby is looking to appoint a proven HR Manager.

Your new role
This role requires a qualified CIPD senior HR professional to lead and manage the HR function, recruitment and people management processes to ensure they meet the requirements of the organisation, are up to date and legally compliant. The role will involve providing advice to the Senior Management Team and Chief Executive on all employment, volunteer and workforce matters and assist the organisation to continue to develop, implement and monitor a comprehensive HR strategy ensuring that employee recruitment, retention, leadership, motivation and effectiveness are maximised. As well as this you will be managing a team of 4.

  • Working closely with the Senior Management Team you will be responsible for coordinating all functions in relation to Human Resources services, policies and programmes including but not limited to:
  • Responsible for the Management of the Complete Recruitment Life Cycle; recruit staff, produce contracts and offer of employment letters
  • Coordinate the staff induction and exit procedures and ensure they are satisfactorily completed in a timely manner
  • Supervision and performance management: coaching managers on performance management issues and processes
  • Employee relations, including managing absence, disciplinaries, grievances and sickness
  • Advise Managers on day to day issues and manage processes such as disciplinary procedures, performance management, grievance procedures and performance reviews, complex disciplinary/grievance and HR issues, using HR and company knowledge evidencing appropriate decision making skills
  • Managing, supporting and developing a team of staff
  • Measuring employee satisfaction and identifying areas that require improvement
  • Learning and development: providing guidance on development for managers and their teams
  • Training: managing and overseeing the implementation of the training and development agenda; identifying areas that need attention and improvement
  • Coordinate and manage the HR Assistant in ensuring mandatory training is undertaken and that information is entered/reported to all relevant bodies
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all HR records such as Job Descriptions, Employees, Annual Leave, Sickness, Absence, Training etc
  • Responsible for ensuring that the HR database is up to date, is monitored and that the reporting of HR information to the Directors, Departmental Heads and section managers is accurate and informs practice
  • Working alongside Managers you will monitor levels of sickness, including home visits where appropriate and advise how to improve sickness and absences. Ensure that the return to work interviews are carried out and any issues are discussed with the manager in relation to staff safety and welfare and conduct interviews with staff members who are frequently off sick
  • Ensure that Staff Supervisions are carried out in a timely manner
  • Responsible for the maintenance of HR Policies and Procedures in line with Government Legislation and commissioning requirements
  • Responsible for maintaining a register of volunteers and all associated functions
  • You will be responsible for preparing documentation and standard letters in relation to the above


What you'll need to succeed
You will need to be a proven HR manager with experience of managing a team of 4 staff and achieving results. Reporting directly into the CEO, the successful candidate must have the following experience.

  • Demonstrable experience of leading and motivating HR teams to deliver a high quality service.
  • Demonstrate the ability to implement systems in relation to Human Resources
  • Thorough up to date knowledge of employment law
  • Demonstrable experience in managing TUPE, redundancy or other relevant HR projects
  • Experience of report writing in relation to staff sickness, absence, retention training etc
  • Experience of supporting Managers with staff issues and disciplinary procedures
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of employment law and HR good practice
  • Experience of coordinating recruitment processes including recruitment and interviews at a senior level
  • Experience of dealing with senior and sometimes challenging individuals
  • Confident directing HR and advising managers on all aspects of people management and development
