At the Health and Safety Executive we help Great Britain work well. We’re the national occupational health and safety regulator – here to protect lives and livelihoods and help employers innovate, be productive and grow. With the establishment in shadow form of a new Building Safety Regulator and the fundamental changes associated with Brexit, there has never been a more stimulating time to join us. We’re now looking for a Head of Reward, Policy and Employee Relations.

The role

Leading the Policy & Employee Relations team, you will be there to influence, shape and develop HR policy solutions, including pay and reward, to meet business need. This will involve:

• Taking the lead on reward, policy reviews and development to ensure that all legal, civil service and business requirements are met, as well as developing and implementing our annual pay award.

• Managing relationships and service provision of external partners including SSCL and MY CSP

• Engaging HSE’s recognised trade unions, effectively managing policy work through consultation and negotiation

• Supporting senior leaders in their engagement with trade unions – making sure trade union activity reporting is produced to deadline and high quality standards

• Producing impressive data analysis that provides robust insights that aid the decision making of the HR Senior Management Team.

Your background

We’re looking for a wide variety of aptitude and experience, including:

• Strong understanding and extensive practical experience of Civil Service employment policy and Employment Law – especially the development and application of pay and reward policy

• Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate staff to deliver high performance

• An impressive track record of communicating complex issues with clarity to a wide range of stakeholders

• Experience of a range of HR functions – for example, as a HR business partnering or HR transactional activity professional

• The proven ability to build excellent rapport with senior leaders and peers.

Rewards

In return, you can look forward to a civil service pension, flexible working, challenging and high profile work, investment in your personal development, and the opportunity to develop your career across the wider civil service HR department.

We’re committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment and particularly welcome Female/BAME/disabled/LGBT+ applicants, currently underrepresented in this discipline within HSE.
