Our confidential retained client is the UK's market leader in its specialist sector and benefits from being part of a multi-billion-dollar global business that puts its customers' needs at the heart of everything it does.

Notwithstanding the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, this is a business which has huge potential and plans for growth as we "come out the other side". In the last 12 -18 months, the wider organisation has invested £millions in modernisation and has invested in leading edge technology and systems.

Attention is now turning to the transformation of the UK Commercial Division.

Under the leadership of a highly talented, people focused UK Commercial Director (responsible for Sales, Marketing, Digital and Contact Centres etc) they are taking what has been a somewhat traditional Sales and Marketing function through a massive transformation focussing on customer proposition, digital technology, and people development.

From a proposition perspective, it's all about understanding the rapidly changing market and identifying what products and services are going to meet customers' changing demands

From a technology perspective, they're looking at how they both digitise and improve customer experience by embedding new customer facing technology including market leading web sites, CRM systems and Call Centre telephony platforms.

From a people development perspective, the focus is on developing sales capability through core sales competency assessment, consultative selling skills and improved leadership development. It's about developing a high-performance sales culture and ensuring staff have the technology, skills and reward mechanisms to deliver the commercial targets.

Modernising the function is key to the organisation's success and, as a result of internal promotion, we're helping them recruit a new HRD to work closely with the Commercial Director and their leadership team.

The ideal candidate will be a highly influential, commercially astute, and credible HR professional. They will be a confident, resilient and self-sufficient individual with excellent analytical skills, strong business acumen and a successful track record in commercial HR business partnering. They will be an excellent relationship builder with a collaborative approach and have an exceptional focus on operational excellence.

Sector experience is less important than a strong track record in developing and implementing the strategy to modernise the Commercial division. It is ESSENTIAL that applicants have a strong track record of having done this previously. We regret we won't be able to progress any applicants who can't demonstrate success in sales modernisation in a sizeable business (e.g. £500mn t/o).

We're interested in hearing from candidates who have not only implemented the above but can also demonstrate how they have led on the design of the organisational architecture.

The successful candidate will work flexibly and for the foreseeable future, spend a large proportion of time, working from home. In the future (hopefully!) more time will be spent F2F with the Commercial division's leadership team. Many of them are based along the M4 Corridor so applicants will need to be comfortable with regular travel there.
