HR Policy and Project Lead (12-month maternity cover)

£37,679 - £43,000 plus £1,750 location allowance and excellent benefits

Based Hanslope Park, Milton Keynes, MK19 7BH

Ready to lead on HR policy and deliver projects and initiatives for a team that protects people, information and assets worldwide? Welcome to life at FCDO Services (formerly FCO Services). We work with government-level customers – including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office – on everything from construction to logistics; cybersecurity to seismic engineering. We build and refurbish embassies. We provide governments with secure WiFi. We deliver secure diplomatic parcels across continents. And a lot more besides.

It’s wide-ranging work with an incredibly varied team of skillsets and locations – and you’ll be there to drive and deliver the HR policies and projects that support our diverse team every day. In fact, with your help, we’ll be stronger than ever, delivering on our customer promise to be reliable, responsive, and build deep relationships with our government customers.

Maintain communication channels that support change

Over the course of your 12-month contract, you’ll be there to develop, review and introduce best-practice HR policies and procedures, working closely in line with other government departments. During a period of policy change across these bodies, you’ll keep communication channels open, ensuring that we stay up-to-date with the newest developments and that departments and stakeholders are onboard with what we want to achieve. You’ll even look beyond to wider industry – both public and private sector – for the latest thinking, so that we’re not only aligned with government but aiming for best practice in everything we do.

Deliver projects for a diverse team

When it comes to project management, you make everything run smoothly. You’re exceptionally organised, calm under pressure, and you get the results you need on time and on budget. That’s just the kind of drive and skill we need here, as you’ll be part of delivering critical initiatives that help us achieve our business strategy. With your time management skills and your ability to bring together all the right people to collaborate on every project, you’ll help us attract, retain and support colleagues of all backgrounds. It’s work you’ll be proud to be part of – and you’re just the right person to see it through.

Grasp complexity and grow your impact

With an eye for detail, you’ll make sure every policy is carefully crafted for efficiency, supporting both our business plan and the team’s performance. You’ll also get the support of trade unions too, collaborating and negotiating for the best result. But as well as being principled and detail-oriented, you’ve got a head for the bigger picture: looking at issues from every angle, you’ll spot the knock-on effects of any policy change and plan accordingly. All that is no mean feat, when you consider that our HR policies and projects will affect colleagues across specialisms, working all over the world.

Bring policy expertise and find potential for your career

The planning, management and communication skills we need could come from all kinds of experience. You could come from government and offer public sector insight, or you could come from a commercial role and offer best practice thinking from wider industry. Either way, you’ll bring your expertise to strengthening our HR policy, supporting a team that protects government work. At the same time, we’ll support your work, offering all the benefits and pension of a Civil Service career. In short, it’s your job, bigger.

All our employees have to be security cleared, so you will need to undergo a comprehensive vetting process before joining.
