ER and Policy Development Specialist

Your new company

My client are a global specialist services organisation with over 14,000 UK employees and operations throughout the UK. They now have an exciting opportunity for a ER and Policy Development Specialist to join their ER team. The role will be based from home initially but longer term it will be a mix of home based and at their head office in Staffordshire.


Your new role

You will support the ER and Policy Development Manager on a range of projects, including developing and implementing ER/HR Policies for an employee base in excess of 14,000. This role will also involve close working with Trade Unions and will take the lead on specific Trade Union responsibilities, such as the Joint Trade Union Forums.

This role would suit an experienced and passionate HR professional who brings with them demonstrable Policy Development experience in an unionised environment and who wishes to contribute to an exciting Employee Relations and HR strategy.

As the HR and Policy Specialist, you will be responsible for liaising, consulting and negotiating with Trade Unions at a national level across a range of ER and Policy activities. You will provide specialist high-level support on complex and varied employee relations matters ensuring the balance between commercial and legal considerations, while also taking into consideration my client's values.

Day to day responsibilities:

Write, refresh and simplify HR policies, management tools and guidance documents through working groups consisting of internal and external stakeholders, and in consultation with Trade Unions.

Produce templates for HR policies and guides, setting minimum standards to be used across all local policies as well as developing a strong implementation and national communication plan.

Review manager guides to ensure consistency and identify improvements to assist leaders through typical ER queries, e.g. simple disciplinary issues, absence issues, basic dispute resolution Manage the project plan for the implementation of a new ER Benefits contracts into the business.

Update internal procedures and tools to drive efficiencies for the business. Monitor the use and effectiveness of third-party vendors providing including OH, EAP and Physio service.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Significant ER and HR experience.
  • Proven hands-on policy development and writing experience.
  • Strong Employment Law knowledge.
  • Proven experience of working with Trade Unions.
  • Proven Project Management experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a pressured environment.


Desirable:

  • Previous process mapping experience.
  • Experience in managing 3rd party HR vendors (such as Occupational, Employee Assistance Programs)
  • Lean practitioner.



What you'll get in return

The role attracts a salary of c£45,000-£48,0000 plus a car allowance or car, private medical cover, life assurance and a very generous annual bonus.
