Executive Director People & Culture

The Bank of England is the UK's central bank with the mission to deliver monetary and financial stability for the people of the United Kingdom. The Bank, although independent, takes it remit from Government and amongst other things, supervises around 1,500 institutions, settles an average of £685 billion each working day and provides the detailed analysis which underpins interest rate decisions. The Bank provides a critical service to the UK economy and in doing so, employs around 4,000 staff and has a total gross expenditure of around £639 million per annum.

The Role

We are looking to recruit a new Executive Director of People & Culture to steer the Bank’s human capital at a pivotal time for the Bank and the economy.  Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will join the Bank’s team of Executive Directors and will work with the Governor, Deputy Governors and the Court (Board) and act as their thought partner in the modernisation of the function. 

The Bank’s central functions of People & Culture, Shared Services, Technology and Finance are undergoing a significant transformation. Working collaboratively with the other Executive Directors in delivering this transformation you will need to provide inspirational and effective leadership to the People & Culture functions during this process, building and leading capabilities that delivers for the Bank into the future.  The People & Culture Executive Director will be a critical lever of change as we modernise our ways of working and our culture, increase our diversity, and deliver transformation across the organisation.

The Executive Director leads a department of 65 people including teams covering Reward, Inclusion & Sustainability, Employee Relations and Talent Acquisition & Development. 

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be an accomplished HR leader with deep experience in HR modernisation and changing culture and mind-set in similar complex and long established environments and will demonstrate credibility as a true expert in their field. The candidate will be a strategic thought leader who will effectively drive culture change. The candidate will be a skillful collaborator with the numerous internal and external stakeholders. Experience of sectors with high levels of intellectual specialisation would be an advantage.
