The core role of the Student Affairs Officer is to support the Senior Manager: Academic Integrity and Student Conduct in handling cases through the Procedures for the Consideration of Allegations of Assessment Offence

Description

Responsibilities include:

  • High quality administration, with reference to agreed timeframes and key performance indicators
  • Developing and maintaining good practice in relation to transparency, the security of audit trail and reporting requirements.
  • Logging referred cases and maintaining detailed records relating to active and archive cases;
  • Management of queries received through the assessment offences inbox, the University's enquiry management system and other channels;
  • An understanding of the aims of the process, which is to assure the maintenance of academic standards and promote good academic practice;
  • Assessing referred allegations of examination hall offences and plagiarism against agreed criteria and implementing the procedures as appropriate;
  • Gathering and reviewing evidence in support of allegations;
  • Drafting letters on behalf of the Associate Director: Student Affairs and the Pro-Vice Chancellor (International), or their nominee;
  • Engaging in effective and appropriate correspondence with students relating to the application of the assessment offences procedure;
  • Ensuring expert engagement with the General and Programme Regulations, and all processes relating to assessment;
  • Building and maintaining relationships with, University of London Worldwide, School of Advanced Study and Member Institution colleagues to support the process, as appropriate;
  • Advising colleagues on general protocols relating to assessment offences, and matters concerning individual cases, as appropriate;

EXPERIENCE & PERSONAL QUALITIES

Essential:

* The ability to work independently, prioritise work appropriately, identify problems, and work with others to agree solutions.

* Demonstrable experience of administration within a professional or higher education environment.

* Demonstrable experience of working within a team to achieve targets and goals, and plan, coordinate and review against identified objectives.

* The ability to work effectively under pressure to achieve deadlines.

* The ability to work with others exercising appropriate tact, diplomacy and determination in a professional, pleasant and confident manner.


* The ability to engage in effective and appropriate correspondence with students, including an appreciation of the need for confidentiality and sensitivity.

Desirable:

* Experience of successful stakeholder management at a variety of levels.

* The ability to make reasoned judgments and use initiative to resolve problems.

* Experience of managing data, monitoring performance and reporting.  Inquisitive nature with a strong sense of justice and fairness.
