About the team
Shelter’s People Directorate provides the strategic lead on people management and organisational development. Our purpose is to “enable the empowerment of our people to achieve their potential and Shelter’s ambition through building a culture based on compassion, fearlessness, inclusion and trust.” Our Employee Relations team helps the organisation manage Employee Relations processes in line with our values and policies, and ensures managers are empowered to manage the employee relations environment within their department.
About the role
Driving and delivering consistency and the effectiveness of processes and employee experiences, specifically through the ‘employee relations’ lens, is what’s required here. That means identifying where there’s a need to focus and improve managers’ knowledge and experience and ensuring action Is taken where appropriate to address development opportunities. It also means supporting the business as a dedicated senior ER specialist, seeing that expert advice and guidance is provided and empowering managers during difficult employee experiences. Supporting the evolution of the ER function within Shelter will be important too, as will making sure the service operates effectively and efficiently. And, when it comes to driving process improvement, ensuring Advisors are engaged with the ER continual improvement journey, monitoring team and individual performance or ensuring our case management system is maintained effectively, again, we’ll count on you.
To succeed, you’ll need an HR qualification (CIPD) or equivalent proven experience that includes managing a telephone based HR Advise helpline or similar. You’ll also need excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, together with lots of tact and diplomacy. Proficient using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams & Skype, familiarity with case management software would be an advantage.
