BUSINESS MANAGER – HR & TRAINING

Permanent, 37 hours per week

ZONE 1 - £50,053 TO £53,388 per annum (pay award pending)

Newark and Sherwood District Council is situated in the historic market town of Newark, in the heart of Nottinghamshire.  We’re proud of our vast district and our national attractions including The National Civil War Centre, the Castle, Southwell Minster and Sherwood Forest.  We’re easily accessible by both road and rail and we boast some of the nicest parks and green spaces in England.  We’re an ambitious, forward thinking Council with strong values and a culture of doing our absolute best to serve our residents.  We have an in-house HR & Training service and we’re looking for somebody to head up our team and take them to the next level of excellence.

Reporting to the Director of Customer Services and Organisational Development you’ll be comfortable providing strategic and operational HR, Training and Equalities direction and advice to managers at all levels.  You will have extensive experience of leading and implementing change and continuous improvement in a large/complex organisation. You’ll be a passionate people person with a “can do”, flexible approach to work and strong commitment to our organisational culture and values. We have an excellent collaborative and inclusive culture and you will take the lead in building upon this success.

You’ll lead the team, ensure that policies, procedures and processes remain fit for purpose and meet or exceed statutory requirements.  You’ll get involved in various exciting projects including the implementation and development of a new HRIS and the delivery of the HR Strategy.  As lead officer, you’ll work closely with Trades Union colleagues to negotiate and consult on changes to terms and conditions of service, restructures and other employment matters to ensure that excellent employment relationships are maintained at all times.

Preferably with previous local government experience, you’ll be qualified to degree level or equivalent and hold a CIPD Level 7 qualification or equivalent.  You’ll have significant experience of operating at a senior strategic and advisory level within both HR and training, a detailed knowledge of employment legislation and Equalities and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

In return, we’ll give you a competitive salary and workplace pension, generous annual leave entitlement, a raft of family friendly policies including the opportunity to adopt hybrid working in modern office accommodation with a great bunch of colleagues from day one.

If you’re interested and would like to know more about the role, please contact Caroline Glass on 01636 655305 or email to caroline.glass@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk
