About Us

Established in 1991, Turning Tides is a community-led charity dedicated to ending homelessness. At Turning Tides, we empower homeless or insecurely housed individuals to achieve sustainable independent living.

We have gone from supporting a handful of people in the coastal town of Worthing to providing a range of services to over 1,700 people in Worthing, Adur, Littlehampton, Horsham and Mid Sussex. We have over 5,000 supporters, 250 volunteers and 150 staff members to date.

We are currently looking for a Head of HR with excellent strategic skills to join our senior team and provide vision and direction across our organisation. The role is available on a full-time or part-time basis.

- 25 days’ holiday (pro rata) increasing by one day per year up to 28 days (not including Bank Holidays)

The Role

As our Head of HR, you will help shape and lead the delivery of a first-class HR function, ensuring employee wellbeing, progressive policies and a collaborative culture are at our core.

Leading and inspiring our HR Team, you will design, deliver and promote a progressive people strategy which attracts, develops, rewards and retains talented employees, strengthening our organisation.

Keeping our people at the heart of our culture and values, you’ll oversee all areas of HR including the full employee lifecycle, employee relations as well as coaching and advising managers.

You’ll work closely with key stakeholders to drive and enhance organisational effectiveness, provide brilliant training support to all our teams and lead and promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion across the charity.

About You

To join us as our Head of HR, you will need:

- Extensive generalist HR experience including in performance management, talent management, employee engagement and reward and recognition strategies

- Solid employment law knowledge

- Experience of applying updated legislation and good practice to a variety of HR situations

- Significant experience in preparing HR reports

- In-depth knowledge of HR best practice, research, policy and legislation

- A proven track record of effective leadership and management

- Experience of senior stakeholder engagement and the ability to influence others

- The ability to build effective and collaborative relationships across the charity

- To be CIPD qualified (level 7) with evidence of continuous professional development

Other organisations may call this role HR Director, Head of Human Resources, Head of Organisational Development, Head of People, Head of HR Operations, or Head of People & Organisational Development.

This role has the option of being full-time, working 37.5 hours per week, or part-time, working 30 hours per week.
