Your new company

My client is a family owned Group with a diverse portfolio of business areas including care, manufacturing and property. They now have a requirement for an experienced HR Advisor to join their team, based in Shrewsbury with regular travel around the sites in the local area.


Your new role

As HR Advisor, you will provide support to SLTs, General Managers and employees on matters of interpreting employment contracts and law; best practice and commercial HR; policy and procedure; day to day problem-solving. You will be available day to day on the telephone and by email, as situations arise with regular travel to all Group locations as the need may arise (e.g. sit in on a meeting, review case work with a manager, meet an employee). This may also involve regular/weekly days on site by arrangement to support the management team with their HR needs.

You will keep under review the Company's HR policies and procedures according to agreed schedule, keep the Company abreast of relevant legislative changes and flag these up to HR Exec team and drive engagement/involvement of SLT members and Company Secretary in this process.

As HR Advisor, you will support, coach and guide managers through disciplinary, grievance and appeals processes and approve outgoing correspondence. Negotiate informal resolutions where optimal. Oversee investigations were required. Support employee and manager throughout process and carry out welfare calls to employees as appropriate.

Scope out an employee relations issue as it emerges; identify potential risk factors and commercial drivers; formulate & advise on appropriate way forward and review draft correspondence and investigation reports.

Where resources and/or management inexperience are a factor, compile and draft the same. Prepare case files.
- Maintain casework record to ensure progress is maintained and to facilitate discussions with key managers.
- Provide administrative support for the HR Exec team in relation to managing their casework.

Support, coach and guide managers through absence management and capability procedures (ill-health or performance related). Liaise with occupational health and Training Officer as appropriate. Advise on welfare & liaison aspects.

You will support the HR Exec team with project work; conduct relevant research, supply Company data/metrics as required, support in the presentation of communications for presentation to stakeholders.


What you'll need to succeed


You will ideally be an Associate Member of the CIPD, CIPD Level 5, or ideally Level 7 Intermediate Certificate or Diploma Experience & Knowledge or equivalent experience.

General understanding of how a privately-run SME or large organisation operates, ideally within the healthcare sector. Good baseline knowledge of UK HR practices and sound grasp of Employment Law. Previous experience of dealing with complex ER in all areas of the employee lifecycle; proven track record in competently assessing risk and appropriate next steps. IT skills, significant experience of using HR software system; confidence therein.

Able to type at reasonable pace with accuracy. Proficient user of MS Word, Outlook, basic excel spreadsheet functions. Willingness to share knowledge in these areas.

Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain positive work relationships with key stakeholders in order to support and enable business goals. Ability to support, coach and influence managers where appropriate.
Proven track record in owning and driving work activities, being accountable and meeting/exceeding Company expectations.

Strong drive to maintain own continual professional development and share new knowledge.

Experience of working in a multi-site business, ability to work flexibly over a wide geographical area.
Attention to detail; excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, including grammar.

Full, valid driving licence
