HEAD OF HUMAN RESOURCES

UKRI – NERC – BGS

The role will be based at the BGS Headquarters in Keyworth, Nottingham

Appointment will be at UKRI Pay Band F and the salary is £50, 702  - £56,336  per annum, for an exceptional candidate, an additional allowance upto £5k may be paid to enhance the salary level.

Full-time – 37 hours a week, flexible working options such as compressed hours may be available and we offer a flexible hybrid working pattern, spending a minimum of 3 days a week on site on average.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) is an applied geoscience research centre that is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and affiliated to the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). It is a world leading geological survey that provides a core science mission to inform government of science related to the subsurface and its interfaces and also undertakes applied research for solutions to earth and environmental processes, both in the UK and globally. It is funded directly by UKRI as well as through research grants and via private sector contracts.

About the role

The Head of HR role represents a great opportunity to lead a team to deliver people services and learning and development activities across the BGS.  The postholder will be responsible for providing leadership to drive the people agenda and will support the Senior Management Board (SMB) in the delivery of organisational change and corporate people initiatives, providing challenge, support and guidance on a range of HR issues including performance management, organisational design and talent development.  You will work in partnership with UKRI HR functions ensuring the BGS people strategy is aligned with central policy, working proactively with all HR colleagues across UKRI to deliver a consistent and quality HR and L&D service.  For further details on the key responsibilities, please see the job description

About you

In this role, you will be a key member of the Operations Leadership Team and you are required to have the following priority qualifications, experience, skills and abilities as set out in the essential criteria of the skills specification, for further details, please see full skills specification criteria for this post.:

  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent professional experience and you must be a chartered member or Fellow of the CIPD;
  • Evidence of HR senior leadership with experience of managing a team to deliver an effective strategic and operational HR and L&D function;
  • Evidence of developing people interventions to support performance management, talent management, leadership and capability development, workforce planning, restructuring and culture change;
  • Experience of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders;
  • Evidence of managing change programmes and project workstreams;
  • Strong influencing and communication skills with the ability to drive change, engagement and inclusion and diversity
  • Experience of using people data and analytics to bring new insight and demonstrate impact.
