HR Advisor - Band 6

Your new company

A brand new 6 month project opportunity has become available to join the People Directorate e HR Business Partnering Team for a period of 6 months. Following increased external scrutiny on sickness absence and the Trusts recent trajectory in sickness absence performance, it has been proposed that it would be wise to utilise this funding to invest in the creation of an interim HR Team, who can lead the focus on improving attendance management processes/procedures and systems. The Attendance Improvement Team will be made up of a temporary HR Manager and HR Advisor who will be supported by the existing HR Data Analyst and HR Administrators who are aligned to current operational areas.

Your new role

The team will focus on a range of sickness improvement measures. Identifying underlying issues and putting measures in place to improve both processes/outcomes. The team will work under the guidance of and report into, the Head of HR Business Partnering The broad scope of the team will encompass:

  • Working with the data analyst to drill down into the sickness data to understand reasons behind the data and highlight hot spot areas which require additional support.
  • Working with operational teams to develop and implement area project plans to support specific service needs.
  • Conducting/overseeing audits in hot spot areas, identifying inconsistent application of controls and providing feedback and support to managers around gaps in process or skills.
  • Delivering coaching and support to managers around managing complex cases.
  • Developing current sickness reporting tools for managers to enable them to clearly identify which staff have hit a trigger and require action under the policy.
  • Putting measures in place to support the periodic focus on repeat offenders and patterns of absences, to mitigate projected seasonal rises in sickness levels
  • Working with our OH provider to gain clarity around the reasons for OH referrals across specific operational/geographical areas and make recommendations on implementing the specific OH provisions across specified areas.
  • Reviewing current processes to support staff who are not fit to undertake their substantive role but are fit enough to work in some capacity.
  • Raising awareness of the impact of sickness absence on service provision and the financial position of the Trust.

  • What you'll need to succeed
