You will be a member of the People team whose aim is to deliver an enhanced employee experience by providing HR advice and assistance to the organisation. You will work closely with the People Partners to on employee relations matters.

We are looking for ER Manager to manage the delivery of a professional, high quality and effective employee relations service across Wellcome leading on all areas of ER including disciplinaries, performance management, grievances and employment tribunals, matrix managing a small team to advise and guide managers as appropriate.

In this role you will

  • Support all levels of the organisation and the People team as a dedicated ER specialist, ensuring provision of expert advice and guidance in line with best practice, legislation, policies and procedures.

  • Be the expert and escalation point for complex and challenging cases including cases up to dismissal and take the lead on tribunal cases. Work with external counsel and colleagues within the People Team when needed to manage employee litigation. Direct management or matrix management of casework

  • Assess and communicate any risks and/or costs to the organisation/People team colleagues in relation to ER issues

  • Work in collaboration with line managers and People team colleagues to ensure the organisation is continually improving the management of ER cases and lessons learnt are captured and shared.

  • Anticipate legal updates, ensure People Team colleagues and managers are briefed and changes are understood.

  • Develop and implement employment related policies and procedures, ensuring existing policies and procedures are kept under review to ensure they remain legally compliant, create a positive, inclusive and fair working relationship and reflect Wellcome's culture. This includes undertaking a review of all existing people policies and procedures to create a much more consistent and engaging experience for our people.

  • Partner effectively with other members of the People team to identify opportunities to improve agility in the organisation by simplifying and standardising the way we do things.

  • Partner with Talent and Development and People Partner colleagues to develop and deliver bespoke workshops to upskill managers in the application of Wellcome policies and best practice.

  • Contribute to the creation and development of a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

To be successful in this role you will have

  • Extensive employee relations experience including tribunal case management with a comprehensive knowledge of employment law and the employment tribunal process. Trained and experienced in mediation

  • A demonstrable track record of coaching and building line management capability to effectively manage complex grievance, disciplinary, sickness absence and performance management issues.

  • Extensive experience conducting disciplinary and grievance investigations and coaching and supporting others to do so.

  • Experience organisational change and TUPE

  • Significant experience of developing, drafting and implementing employment related policies and procedures covering the full employee lifecycle.

  • Good knowledge of diversity and inclusion related legislation and best practice, ensuring Diversity and Inclusion considerations are central to all advice and guidance

Salary: £57,165
