My client, a leading fin tech business, are looking to appoint an ER Director to join their team on a permanent basis. This is to replace someone who is moving internally. The role will have responsibility for overseeing and managing the employee relations function for the UK business and work with the Global Head of ER & Policy to develop and drive strategic ER objectives. You will have oversight of the UK relationship with Unions and representative bodies, engaging them on people change activity as appropriate.


  • Develop a UK Employee Relations plan (aligned to the global ER strategy & plan) with a focus on developing a positive ER climate during complex organisational and integration change
  • Collaborate with other People functions to align objectives and leverage shared resources
  • Support divisional People teams, providing employee relations and employment policy and process, advice, guidance, insight, training and expertise to ensure People teams are equipped to provide employee relations and policy advice, interventions and solutions aligned with the divisional objectives.
  • Build a high performing ER UK team and lead ER Specialists in communications and change management strategies and where possible, utilise best practice technology to support policies and procedures.
  • Develop a cooperative partnering culture with employee representative bodies.
  • Manage complex cases and advise on all aspects of case management as required
  • Ensure UK policy development is in line with strategic goals, best practice, legal requirements and supports global application, where appropriate
  • Design and deliver training and development for the People teams and line managers in order to build constructive manager employee relationships
  • Develop People capability in the understanding and application of employment law, policies and practices to ensure consistency and manage risk.
  • Develop a reporting mechanism for employee relations analytics and data, as required
  • Represent the ER function internally and externally as appropriate across a range of stakeholders including Forums, steering committees and working groups

Key Experience/Skills

  • Significant stakeholder management experience
  • Experience in leading and managing teams
  • Experience of working in fast paced, global and matrixed organisation during time of significant change
  • Broad business and managerial knowledge of a specific sub-function, BU or technical discipline
  • Thorough understanding of UK employment law and its practical application to facilitate achievement of business outcomes
  • Influencing and negotiation skills, whilst demonstrating the ability to build good working relationships with business, HR stakeholders and ER colleagues
  • Strong team player
  • Sound business and commercial acumen
  • Structured approach to problem solving with the ability to take intelligent risks
  • Balances the strategic with the operational
