Head of Human Resources
Department of Physics, Clarendon Laboratory, Parks Road, Oxford
The Department of Physics is looking for an experienced HR professional to lead on the provision of people-related support services and strategic project work as well as the development of departmental policy.
This is a permanent full time post but we will also consider part time hours of 80% FTE. We would also consider an underfill at grade 8 and the duties of the post would be amended accordingly.
Reporting to the Head of Administration and Finance, you will work closely with the Department’s academic leadership team. You will also be a member of the Physics Operations Team which brings together the Department’s functional leads.
You will engage positively with all staff groups and be expected to provide strategic insights and recommendations for improvements to operations and services. You should be able to engender respect and trust in all relationships. You will provide HR advice and support on complex people management issues working closely with managers and with the University’s central HR team.
The Head of HR will forge effective relationships in the wider University providing expert opinion and advice and contributing to University-wide goals, sharing best practices and keeping abreast of changing environment and policy.
You will be educated to at least graduate level (or equivalent), with a background of significant management experience in an academic environment, and of leading a service or support function of significant size.
You will be an experienced and innovative leader, who will be responsible for the delivery of high quality and responsive support. You will have sound judgement under pressure, but able to think laterally and creatively, and have the intellectual capacity and strength of character to take and implement important complex and sometimes difficult decisions.
Only applications received before midday 6th June 2022 can be considered.
You will be required to upload a supporting statement, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
