As a Barclays Global Payroll Service Delivery Manager, you will join us in our strategic HR location to become accountable for defining the global payroll strategy and executing transformation plans to achieve agreed outcomes, on time and to budget. Once with us, you will also handle the accurate and timely delivery of the business critical Payroll service globally, whilst ensuring that there is adequate and constant operational resilience, as well as commercial and service oversight of all Payroll service suppliers to Barclays.

Barclays is one of the world's largest and most respected financial institutions, with 329 years of success, quality and innovation behind us. We offer careers that provide endless opportunity – helping millions of individuals and businesses thrive, and creating financial and digital solutions that the world now takes for granted.

We are currently operating in a hybrid working environment, meaning that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager.

What will you be doing?

  • Leading a team of c. fifty FTEs located in the US, UK, India, and APAC, with seven direct reports, ensuring adequate colleague development and succession plans are in place
  • Delivering the end-to-end Payroll service for all Barclays colleagues globally, in accordance with all relevant Service Level Agreements and within risk appetite
  • Ensuring timely resolution of escalated and/or complex issues, requests for exceptions to standard processes and service delivery issues, and that any Risk Events are reported
  • Authorising Global Payroll-related payments and balance sheet funding movements, in line with a pre-agreed financial discretion approval matrix
  • Managing in line with the multi-million GBP budget of the Payroll service covering both staff and non-staff costs, including the use of external vendors
  • Acting as the senior engagement point from Payroll into the Reward and Compensation team, Finance, Group Tax, Chief Controls Office, and Audit
  • Acting as Service Delivery recipient for suppliers engaged to provide the complete Payroll service and partnering with the Payroll Service Manager to own service reviews
  • Analysing and identifying trends within service performance to recommend new ideas and solutions that improve operational efficiency and the controls environment

What we’re looking for:

  • Good knowledge and experience of multi-country payroll operations for a large scale organisation, including good understanding of payroll legislation and employment tax
  • Ability to contribute to payroll strategy based upon best practice, to include external suppliers and lead diverse, international teams to deliver transformation
  • Thorough understanding of all key risks and associated controls required in order to operate a resilient global payroll service for a large scale, complex organisation
  • Good understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, and experience of other internal and external audits

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Member of Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals or equivalent
  • Payroll service management experience, including the definition of SLAs and associated governance
  • Other HR shared services experience e.g. provision of Benefits including Pensions, Healthcare and Fleet
  • Prior membership of a wider HR Services senior-leadership team

Where will you be working?
Northampton was the birthplace of Barclaycard in 1966 and we've been based in Pavilion Drive since the building opened in 1997.
We purchased the building from the landlord in early 2018 as a sign of our commitment to investment in Northampton. Plans to further develop this Campus-style location are under way to allow for a real collaborative work environment. Based just off the A45 it is easily accessible by both car and bus routes.
