Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced EDI professional to develop and implement effective strategies, plans, frameworks and networks to deliver meaningful and sustainable EDI improvements. EDI is integral to all that we do and as our EDI specialist, you will provide advice and support, and actively participate in engaging with our workforce and our wider Bedfordshire communities.

As both an inward and outward facing role, you will need to be able to build trust and positive relationships, quickly and with a variety of people, groups, and other organisations. Your innovative approach will be founded on a thorough understanding of how to practically apply equality legislation, codes of practice, regulations, case law and good practice. This role is also responsible for monitoring and reporting on progress and compliance including the Public Sector Equality Duty.

And it goes without saying that you will need to demonstrate the commitment to embedding EDI and our organisational values into everything we do.

Benefits

We offer a competitive salary alongside other fantastic benefits including:

  • Flexi-time scheme to support your work-life balance
  • Local Government Pension Scheme (CARE) with generous employer contribution as well as life insurance
  • Holiday allowance of 24 days (plus public holidays), increasing to 29 days after 5 years' service and 31 days after 10 years' service (pro rota if part time or irregular working pattern)
  • Subsidised catering facilities providing hot and cold meals
  • Free access to onsite gym facilities
  • Employee-friendly policies including flexible working including enhanced maternity leave
  • Free onsite parking and much more!

If you are a leader determined to make a difference by promoting and influencing others to ensure a culture of equality that values, promotes and celebrates diversity in the workplace, we’d love to hear from you!

We are an equal opportunities employer that welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s recruitment and selection procedures reflect our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Adults, Children and Young People and all staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.

Employees joining from another government body, or local authority may be entitled to retain their previous service for the purpose of continuity of some contractual entitlements including holiday allowance.

Closing date: Monday 15th August 2022
