In this rare opportunity to lead, inspire and shape the future of our people strategy, you’ll play a key role in setting the future direction of our uniquely complex and highly trusted organisation. Here at FCDO Services, we have an incredibly diverse range of talent: from electricians to data scientists, logistical planners to structural engineers. And as our new Director of People, you’ll lead the team responsible for attracting, upskilling, looking after and nurturing all of them – using an innovative and agile people strategy, shaped by you, to ensure we have the right capabilities to deliver our vital work.

The work we do always has the potential to make a global impact. Because, as a trusted government partner, we help protect the UK’s interests around the world. We design and construct secure government buildings. We help earthquake-proof embassies. We courier diplomatic packages across continents. We keep complex projects on track, and on budget. We store visa applications safely in the Cloud. We provide rapid response teams to help our customers in times of crisis. And a whole lot more besides. With plenty of purposeful challenges and the chance to contribute to our agenda for growth, innovation and efficiency, this role has the potential to fully evolve and transform how we recruit, retain and look after our people. Not only making a real impact now, but also leaving a legacy that sets FCDO Services up to succeed in the future.

Design and deliver a people strategy with global reach

As a member of the Executive team, you’ll be empowered to set the pace for the people-focused work across our organisation. You’ll ensure that people stay at the heart of all our decision making. And lead on talent and capability development, plugging skill gaps and finding creative ways to look after and retain our valued team members. We know that skilled people and a healthy, inclusive culture are vital in achieving our goals and meeting the needs of our customers. So your role will be critical in helping us to succeed in our overall strategy – to grow our business, save and streamline our processes, and innovate to achieve future growth. And because our people work around the world in a wide variety of different roles, this truly is a challenge like no other.

So, what about you? Well, your experience of developing and implementing people and workforce strategies means you’re a confident decision maker. Someone who knows how to embed effective and positive cultural or organisational change. Who has a demonstrable knowledge of HR functions, from the technical and legal aspects, through to the operational delivery that looks after the end-to-end employee lifecycle.

Inspire organisational change that propels us into the future

With an eye on both efficiency and effectiveness, you’ll be digitally savvy – able to advise on the best systems and processes to reliably deliver for our internal and external customers. With your established HR knowledge, you won’t be afraid to respectfully challenge opinions, or motivate colleagues of all levels to transform their thinking or adopt new methods. And by getting involved in all aspects of the HR space, your passion for people will be clear to see.

CIPD qualified, you’ll be a natural at building relationships and networks. Easy to work with, and a great leader, you’ll inspire everyone from your direct reports through to mangers and board members to share your vision for the future of our people strategy. And finally, you’ll be motivated by the opportunity to directly contribute to FCDO Services’ evolution, growth and future innovations – because this all starts with the amazing people who work with us.

Lead a HR team to achieve a purpose that’s truly unique

Here, you’ll find an environment which is focused on investing in and nurturing our people – supporting them to learn new skills and grow their careers with us. This strategy of continuous improvement is only possible thanks to our HR team.
