The Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development will play a key role in developing the HR strategy and ensuring the delivery of an effective and high performing HR service across the business. The role will cover the full range of HR tasks and also co-ordinate the organisational development functions. The post-holder will be a member of the senior leadership team.

Since its creation in 1987, the College has continued to serve as the sixth form of choice for our four local partner schools. However, thanks to our leading reputation and the quality of our courses, we are now home to nearly 2,000 full-time students from over 100 schools across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

In 2010 this was the first college in the UK to be granted a change of status to become a sixth form college. For the past decade it has also been proud to be the only sixth form college in the three surrounding counties to be awarded the highest accolade in the post-16 sector by the Department of Education.

The sixth form college for South Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley, we offer a wide range of courses including over 60 A Level subjects and high achieving vocational diplomas.

Description

The Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development will play a key role in developing the HR strategy and ensuring the delivery of an effective and high performing HR service across.

The role will cover the full range of HR tasks and also co-ordinate the organisational development functions.

The post-holder will be a member of the senior leadership team. Working with managers and staff across, the post holder will have a critical role in ensuring a high-quality working environment for our staff and thus will be required to work on site every day.

Key Responsibilities Human Resources

* To lead, manage and develop the staff within the postholder's areas of responsibility.

* To be responsible for the operational management of the Human Resources function including casework, employee relations, recruitment, systems and HR transactions identifying and driving change to deliver improvements to service.

* To develop, implement and monitor the Human Resources Strategy.

* To develop and implement workforce planning strategies to meet the changing needs of the business.

* To lead on specific HR/change management/restructure projects.

* To lead (in conjunction with payroll) on the maintenance and development of the HR system ensuring that it fully meets on-going business needs.

* To ensure that the College has effective performance management policies, procedures and training in place which fully meet the business needs.

* To review HR business process to ensure their effectiveness and to make recommendations/implement improvements as appropriate.

* To ensure that HR Policies and Procedures are kept updated in accordance with review timescales and in line with legislation and business needs. Organisational Development

* To lead on the development and delivery of programmes and activities which underpin the vision, values and behaviours.

* To be responsible for the effective management of Professional Development across the business.

* To develop and implement succession planning strategies to meet future skills demands.

* To develop and manage effective performance management

* To develop a comprehensive programme to support the well being of staff.

Profile

This role is a key position in the SLT and the business so you will be required to work on site 5 days a week

An appropriate professional HR qualification

Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development.

Up to date knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice.

Previous experience of working successfully in an HR role, including:

Management of HR staff

The ability to provide pragmatic and effective advice, and solutions to difficult issues,

Case management (in the areas of ill-health, capability, discipline and grievance etc),

Recruitment and selection processes,

Effective use of Human Resource Information Systems,

Training and mentoring of HR staff

Demonstrable skills in the following areas:

Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across the College,

Negotiation and influencing skills

Strong organisational, planning and project management skills with a proven ability to manage competing demands effectively,

Proven ability to successfully train staff on process and procedures.

A knowledge of and commitment to safeguarding, equality and diversity and health and safety and their applications in this role.

An understanding, wherever possible through lived experience, of the challenges associated with developing a diverse workforce and the opportunities that it brings.
