HR Assistant | York | £24,000-£28,000 | Office Based (opportunity for hybrid) | FTC 6-9 months


Your new company

This is a fantastic opportunity for a forward-thinking HR Assistant to join the pro-active and professional HR team in York. They are seeking a dynamic HR professional coming from a generalist environment and with a strong recruitment background.

Your new role

You will work with the HR team during a period of planned expansion and change to primarily support an intensive recruitment period. This will include internal secondments, promotions, external recruitment (direct advertising & use of agents) and TUPE transfer staff. The role will be varied and as well as supporting the full recruitment and onboarding process you will have the opportunity to support other key HR functions.

Key Results and Accountabilities
The following accountabilities are not exhaustive and are often demand led, hence the frequency and complexity of the work will vary without changing the character of the role or the level of responsibility.

  • Supporting the full recruitment, onboarding and induction process to ensure all new staff members add value to the organisation. Key characteristics sought: resilient; dynamic; ability and willingness to challenge status quo;
  • Provide a professional and proactive approach to maintain, promote and further develop the HR IT systems (primarily CascadeHR), relevant spreadsheets, reports and documentation.
  • Support to HR projects
  • Support to HR case management. Including but not limited to: arranging meetings, taking minutes, OH referrals.
  • Supporting the monthly payroll process
  • Acting as secretariat for the Staff Consultative Committee
  • General office duties including archiving, producing documentation, disposal of confidential documents
  • Any other tasks as reasonably required to fulfil the role

Key Challenges

  • Time management and dealing with competing priorities and pressures - ability to manage own workload and communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with colleagues to maximise outcomes.
  • Need to work effectively and collaboratively with internal and remote based colleagues whilst maintaining confidentiality and security of personal data.
  • Managing expectations of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Balancing priorities and resources to achieve optimum results.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A successful track record in supporting a busy HR generalist function within a business environment
  • Proven experience within the full recruitment and induction life cycle
  • CIPD Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience
  • A positive and enthusiastic manner
  • Experience of:
  • HR ICT based database system
  • Preparing payroll exception reports
  • Staff benefits and associated processes
  • Understanding of salary sacrifice provision
  • Project administration
  • Experience of supporting TUPE transfers desirable
  • Excellent IT skills and a willingness to embrace new technologies
  • Discretion, good judgement and the ability to deal appropriately with a range of confidential and/or sensitive matters
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to interact effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills and the ability to maintain attention to detail while working to tight deadlines and managing a varied workload in a busy environment
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
