About Us

Nature, the climate and wellbeing are all in crisis. They have never been talked about as much as they are now. The world is waking up to the power of wetlands for people and planet. Wetlands offer real hope.

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a global wetland conservation charity.  We are creating more, better connected wetlands and engaging people to be inspired to act. We do impactful, courageous conservation, backed by science, evidence, delivery and engagement with people and communities, all with a credible history. Our 10 UK sites we present an unrivalled opportunity to connect people with nature, engaging them on a supporter journey and to support us financially.

We have ambitious targets for developing bigger and better wetlands, encouraging more people to take direct action for these unique places, and ensuring key decision makers around the world realise the essential role wetlands play in restoring nature, combating climate change and enhancing health and wellbeing.

About the Role

To meet our ambitious targets we need great people and we are seeking a dynamic and proactive Early Careers Development Officer to work with us for 6 months as part of the Heritage Innovation Fund to help us develop our approach to investing in young people now for the future to establish us as an inclusive employer of choice within the world of conservation.

This project will explore and evaluate options for early career opportunities and develop a proposal of what our approach will be through apprenticeships, placements, graduate programmes and other entry level roles.

The role will involve working with colleagues across WWT to understand the needs of the business as well as networking with peer organisations and establishing relationships with schools, colleges, universities and other institutes to enable early engagement of pipeline talent.

The outcome of the project is to make a recommendation to our leadership team on our approach to career pathways for young people which will also support our Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging policy by attraction of, and overcoming barriers to, establishing a more diverse workforce.

This proposed approach would be shared with others across the conservation sector and the Heritage Innovation Fund.

About You

To join as our Early Careers Development Officer, you’ll have experience in early careers attraction, recruitment and development. You will be able to provide a high level of original thought and use an innovative, creative approach to develop solutions to attraction and recruitment campaigns, including use of social media and networking to help build our reputation as an employer of choice.

You will identify barriers to success in establishing early career opportunities across WWT, including attracting candidates from diverse backgrounds, and generating creative solutions to these challenges leading to WWT’s success in this field.

You will build effective working relationships both internally and with other organisations including schools, colleges, universities and peer organisations.  You have excellent self-management skills and the drive to see a project through from conception to completion, working independently but in collaboration with others across WWT and the Heritage Innovation Fund.

Communication, collaboration and influencing are key to the success of this project.

In return for your hard work and dedication you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits including:

- 33 days annual leave pro rata, inclusive of bank holidays, increasing to 38 days after 5 years’ service
- Contributory pension scheme matching up to 7%
