Job Details

This is a generalist HR role for an established engineering business with c120 employees. You will be their first HR professional, and be charged with setting up a HR function and rolling out standard HR policies and procedures.

Client Details

A long established engineering business based in Huddersfield.


The interim HR Specialist will join the business and be responsible for setting up a professional HR function. Duties will include:

  • Implement a company-wide Performance Management System
  • Review and benchmark compensation & benefits, including commissions & bonus schemes
  • Assess training needs across the organisation
  • Manage recruitment process and implement standard procedures
  • Review payroll service provider and manage relationship
  • Define job descriptions, setting out standard roles and responsibilities
  • Standardise contracts of employment
  • Create an employee handbook
  • Identify optimal future HR structure for ongoing support
  • Implement HR metrics and KPIs
  • Manage disciplinary and grievance processes and implement standard procedures
  • Any other duties as and when required by Executive Board


The interim HR Specialist will ideally be/have:

  • Proven generalist HR experience at HR Manager level
  • CIPD qualification or equivalent experience
  • Good employment law knowledge
  • Solid leadership skills and the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Previous experience of setting up a HR function and creating ground-up policies and procedures, ideally in an SME environments
  • Prior experience of an engineering workplace would be advantageous

  • Salary £40-50,000 dependent on experience
  • 6 month fixed term contract initially
