A newly created Head of HR role is now available at a small, highly successful Asset Manager based in the City of London. Having been founded 15 years ago this business are going from strength to strength and now have over £2bn in AUM and the UK office has 30+ people. They are now looking for their first full time HR partner.

HR has currently been run by a highly experienced consultant but the time is now right for the baton to be passed over and for the new individual to take the reins and make the role their own. The Head of HR will be closely be partnering with the CEO, COO and CIO to help them achieve their goals via people solutions and to actively contribute to the company's superb culture.

This will be a full generalist role strategy through to implementation and operation, full employee lifecycle and the incoming person must be happy to work top to bottom and get in amongst the weeds. It will require a pragmatist, someone with a down to earth yet highly commercial approach.

This is a small business of >30 people - it will really suit candidates that have worked in smaller Financial Services businesses.

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and programmes that support the objectives, vision and principles of the firm
  • Work with the senior management team to identify HR priorities and opportunities
  • Foster a culture of high performance, continuous learning, development and improvement
  • Take a lead role in strengthening organisational culture, ensuring that the firm's principles are embedded across the firm
  • Partner with leaders to design, implement and communicate effective processes that are up-to-date, legally compliant and deliver a positive impact; ensuring they are followed and well-documented
  • Uphold best people practices and legal & regulatory requirements
  • Support managers to deal with absence, performance and misconduct issues
  • Support performance management, promotion and benefits/reward
  • Support and guide ExCo on all aspects of organisational design
  • Add value through idea generation in order to make continuous improvements to the efficiency and the impact of the department
  • Contribute to ensuring the business remains a great place to work


  • Previous senior level HR experience within a smaller Financial Services business.
  • Full, top to bottom and all round generalist HR experience.
  • Be agile and adaptable, flexing between a strategic and operational approach; not averse to rolling your sleeves up
  • Have broad HR generalist experience and expertise
  • See your role as guiding, advising and business partnering, supporting the ExCo, SMT and people managers, delivering through them
  • Have strong appreciation for and experience in building trusted advisor relationships; with leaders and managers at all levels from varied backgrounds and demographics
  • Have the flexibility to context switch between various projects simultaneously and to manage conflicting priorities with different stakeholders
  • Be commercial and pragmatic, balancing the needs of the business with the needs and wants of the workforce
  • Be able to demonstrate accountability, proactivity and initiative
  • Be tech-savvy, with advanced knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Be comfortable working as an individual and as part of a wider team
  • Have exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Be able to demonstrate impeccable written skills
  • Possess demonstrable problem-solving skills and a 'can do, will do', flexible attitude
  • Have exemplary interpersonal communication skills and be an effective relationship[1]builder
  • Possess natural curiosity, with a willingness to learn and grow
