We are looking for someone who loves working with Excel and wants to play a key role in the design and delivery of the pay and reward strategy at the House of Lords. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in our pay negotiations, as well as having oversight of our range of benefits!

You’ll be joining our Employee Experience and Reward team as the Reward and Benefits Manager in our HR office. In this exciting role you will Lead the Reward and Benefits function to ensure the successful implementation of the reward strategy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves getting stuck into a spreadsheet and wants to drive the benchmarking of our reward and recognition framework, feeding into Our People Strategy aim to Attract and Retain the best people. This opportunity is hybrid with a mixture of working from home and on the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Parliamentary Estate.

You’ll be responsible for

  • Leading the Reward and Benefits function to ensure the successful implementation of the reward strategy.
  • Preparing papers and recommendations for changes to reward and benefits.
  • Driving the benchmarking of the reward and recognition framework.
  • Providing expert advice to inform individual pay decisions.
  • Working collaboratively with our Trade Union Side to ensure we maintain a constructive and collaborative partnership, playing a key role in pay negotiations.
  • Providing analysis and narrative for statutory reports, such as gender and ethnicity pay gaps.
  • An expert guidance and support service on the range of benefits offerings, including the Civil Service Pensions Schemes.
  • The allowances framework, ensuring that this meets business needs and drives positive behaviours.
  • Collaboration with colleagues in the House of Commons, Joint Departments and bicameral teams to support effective cross-parliamentary working and deliver on joint projects, e.g., specialist pay.

What we’re looking for

  1. Pay and Reward – Knowledge of public sector pay systems, with demonstrable experience of developing costed pay proposals, including benchmarking exercises, contributing to union negotiations and providing expert advice.
  2. HR Benefits – Demonstrable understanding of non-financial benefits and proven experience supporting benefits packages, ideally including a proven track record of researching and designing new benefits.
  3. Interpersonal skills - Demonstrable self-awareness and experience of influencing a range of managers, senior leaders and colleagues and establishing credibility as a trusted expert.
  4. Management Skills – Demonstrable ability to motivate and develop others, work effectively in a team, promote a values-led, diverse and inclusive working environment. Previous line management experience is not essential.
  5. Planning and Organising – Proven experience of managing multiple priorities successfully, setting and meeting deadlines for yourself and others and adjusting plans to respond to changing circumstances.
  6. Change Management – Proven experience of implementing change effectively, identifying and communicating key messages to diverse audiences, building stakeholder understanding and buy-in, and measuring success.
