The challenge

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for regulating nuclear site health and safety, nuclear safety, security, safeguards and the transport of radioactive materials. As our HR Director, you’ll be at the heart of ONR; a trusted councillor, helping to steer the organisation at the highest levels. Ready to exert your influence? This is your opportunity.

The role

In this varied senior role, you’ll be influencing the direction of a high profile, multi-disciplined and well-respected public body within the nuclear sector. As we embrace change and continuous improvement, you’ll maintain an inclusive, innovative and collaborative workplace.

Part of the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll lead the HR Directorate to support our strategies and deliver people services across ONR. You’ll be managing teams ranging from Health, Safety & Welfare, to Organisational Development – but your influence will go much further. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive, you’ll provide advice and guidance to senior ONR leaders, while leading our One ONR culture, which inspires staff to give their best. Whatever your task, whether it’s a tactical or operational issue, you’ll handle it with composure, leading by example and keeping our values in mind at all times.

The person

To be considered, you must have a proven track record in HR leadership, and membership of a chartered professional body (such as CIPD) at level 5 or above. With this background, you can lead staff through change, deliver complex programmes and people-related initiatives, and provide authentic, inspiring, and visible leadership. You can also contribute to the executive team, taking note of political sensitivities. Pragmatic, resilient, empathetic and measured, you’ll apply sound judgement, even under pressure.

In addition, you’ll have the communication skills to express yourself clearly, whatever the challenge or task. With your ability to build strong relationships, you’ll make connections across ONR and with external partners. Although we are not a large regulator, this role offers tremendous scope. If you have integrity, energy and gravitas, this could be a career-defining moment.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £110,000. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits), and generous holiday entitlement.
